Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information the Journey To Life app and website (jtl.ncd.life) collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Journey To Life is published by Journey To Life Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By using the app you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run your journey:
- Account details — your name, the personal name you choose to be addressed by ("heartname"), email address, and — if you provide them — your gender, date of birth, and timezone. These personalise your journey and wholeness profile.
- Sign-in credentials — if you register with a password we store it only as a secure one-way hash (we never see the password itself). If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive a verified token plus the name and email that provider shares with us; we never receive your provider password.
- Your content — your survey and wholeness-assessment answers, the reflections you write during your journey, your private Field Notes journal entries, and your avatar (an uploaded photo or a preset you choose).
- Device & technical data — a push-notification token (so we can send the reminders you enable), your device language and region (to show the app in the right language), and crash diagnostics and anonymous usage statistics that help us keep the app reliable.
Sensitive information. Journey To Life is a Christian app, so the survey answers, reflections, and Field Notes you provide can reveal information about your religious or philosophical beliefs. Some privacy laws treat this as sensitive personal information. We handle it with the same care as everything else here — it is linked only to your account, used solely to provide the app, never sold, and permanently deleted when you delete your account.
We do not collect advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not run third-party advertising.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: your account, your wholeness profile, and your journey.
- To personalise the reflections and guidance you receive (see "How AI is used" below).
- To send the notifications and reminders you have turned on.
- To send you occasional news, tips, and offers about Journey To Life. You can opt out of these marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such message — this won't affect essential account and security emails.
- To verify your email address and manage your account and security.
- To diagnose crashes and understand which features are used, so we can improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
How your data is stored and protected
Your data is held on servers we control. All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and your private Field Notes journal entries are additionally encrypted at rest on our servers.
We keep our analytics and error-monitoring on our own self-hosted infrastructure rather than sending it to third-party services. Our usage analytics are cookieless and collect no personal data.
How AI is used
The personalised reflections at the heart of your journey are generated using OpenAI's API. We deliberately keep what we send to a minimum: we do not send your name, email, or any contact details. What we send is a summary of your wholeness-assessment results, structured so it carries no information that identifies you — your name is stitched back into the finished text on our own servers afterwards, never sent to OpenAI. OpenAI processes this data only to return your content; as a data processor they act on our instructions.
Service providers we share data with
We rely on a few trusted providers to operate the app. They process data only for the purposes below and only as needed to deliver the service:
- AI content generation (OpenAI) — generates your journey reflections, as described above.
- Email delivery (Amazon Web Services) — sends account emails such as verification and security notices.
- Push notifications (Expo, with Apple and Google's push services) — deliver the notifications you enable to your device.
- Sign-in providers (Apple and Google) — only if you choose their sign-in, to verify who you are.
- Cloud storage (Backblaze) — stores your avatar image if you upload one.
Keeping your data, and deleting your account
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Danger zone → Delete account). Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your profile, your journeys and reflections, your Field Notes, your survey answers, and your avatar, and — where you signed in with Apple — revokes that sign-in grant. Some records may persist briefly in routine backups before they age out. If you would rather we delete your account for you, contact us at the address below.
Your rights
You can access and correct most of your information directly in the app, and you can delete your account as described above. You may also ask us to provide a copy of your data or to delete it, and — depending on where you live — you may have additional rights under local privacy law (including the Australian Privacy Principles). To exercise any of these, contact us.
Children
Journey To Life is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
